Happy New Year, Women in Dataviz!

I'm so grateful for this community and for each of you. Thank you for all of your contributions--words of encouragement, assistance with specific tools, awesome pet GIFs, amazing pet photos, and participation in our events!

🎬 2022 Wrap-up

We recently started using Threado to automate messages welcoming newcomers to the community and to experiment with some other Slack automation workflows. They put together the fun wrap-up of our community's activity in 2022 that is embedded below and available to view here. (As I said on Slack, I am not sure how I feel about the word clouds, but they do effectively show what we talk about!)

➡️ Plans for the year ahead

🤩 HYPE session with Christina Gorga

Nicole Designs Data

Tuesday, January 10, 2023 4 p.m. EST

When was the last time you wrote down your goals? When was the last time someone advocated for you? This one-hour workshop is designed to create a community of people that understand the importance of identifying and communicating their own strengths or hype words, and developing effective peer-to-peer sponsorship. Ultimately, this workshop will help participants to confidently define and share their personal brands, highlight the accomplishments of their peers, and leverage these strategies to host their own hype circles at work.

Christina Gorga, Tableau Social Ambassador and resident data community #hypewoman will moderate and provide resources to participants before and after the #hype session. Please RSVP here.

🗣 More Conversations with Women in Dataviz

Our first talk in this series, The Art & Etiquette of Communicating and Receiving Data Visualization Feedback with Michelle Frayman, Nicole Klassen, and Kim Tricker was a great success and really fun! If you missed it, you can watch the recording on YouTube. Some topics I'm hoping to cover this year include Data Ethics in Practice and How to Create a Successful Collaborative Data Visualization Project. What topics do you want to learn about or speak about? (This is a real question. Please send me your ideas!)

📽 Live streaming dataviz tutorials, builds, and makeovers

Nicole Designs Data

In case you're unaware, we have a Twitch account (you can follow us here), and we've been planning to do livestreams since... well, basically like day 3 on Discord when there were 20 of us. The level of engagement with this thread was heartening and I'm excited that folks are still interested in doing this! Most of us are new to Twitch or live-streaming, so I'm planning a few sessions to review Twitch and the available ways to engage with it. (I've been using Restream and find it SUPER easy! It also allows streaming to over 30 other platforms, too, like YouTube, LinkedIn, )

☕️ More Virtual Coffee Breaks

Held every sixth Thursday morning in the EST time zone. Feel free to drop in and out as you need to between 8 and 9 a.m., and stay for as little time or as long as you want! Our next meeting is on January 19, 2023. I'll post the details in Slack and send a meeting invitation, but to make it as easy as possible, you can join by clicking the button below.

All of the Virtual Coffee Break dates are posted to the Community Calendar, too.
